Agentic Mode is really showing value now

Installed R3 of Xojo and used it with Claude. Let me say this!

Holy cow!!! It has saved me tons of time with this application that I’m working on. It added to code to my Xojo project, ran it, fixed any compile errors that popped up and documented the changes.

Now that I’ve added it to my workflow, I can focus a bit more on the parts of the code that I want to write and let Claude save me time by creating the scaffolding.

Agentic mode with AI integration was a good feature to add to Xojo R3.

I’ve even let it build complete Apps without me touching the Code once. Just for fun

Nice!

I recommend using the new agent mode with Claude Code (others also highly recommend Codex) with Ollama and the DeepSeek 4.1 Flash model. It’s practically free, and for me, the results have been better than with Claude, which I’ve also found to be very expensive when using Xojo’s agent mode.

I use Claude Code monthly Pro subscription and do not encounter the expense that you have

Looks like this model is more than 500 GByte big. How do you use it without cost? And on what Hardware?

I haven’t used Xojo in about 10 years, so of course my license has expired. I tried the AI mode with Claude, and it is great fun. My question is: as I understand it, without a license, the project is saved in Xojo binary format, not in a text format that Claude can use. If I get a license, can this project be reversed back to the AI-readable format? Excuse me if I’m not quite understanding this. Thanks.

Yes, you will be able to Save As… text format.

Thank you1

Hi. Im using cloud version “deepseek-v4.1-flash:1017-cloud” (last version).

May i ask: where can you use this cloud model “practically free”?

I have the Ollama monthly plan ($20). That allows me to run queries on their cloud models. The usage limit “resets” every 5 hours and every 7 days. If you reach the limit at either of those points, you have to wait for it to reset before you can continue using it. You don’t need to make any additional payments if you can wait for the reset.

Ever since the agent mode was released, I’ve used it every day (including at night) nonstop until now. And at no additional cost beyond the monthly subscription fee.

When I first started testing agent mode with Claude (Pro account), I had to pay $50 every few hours ($300 until I tried DeepSeek) to keep using it.

I don’t know why some people say they don’t have to pay again when using Claude. You pay for token consumption. If what you ask it to do uses up a lot of tokens, you have to pay again. That’s only logical.

In my case, my tests weren’t one-off tasks. In both instances, I asked it to build a healthcare-focused CRM (patient management, reports, billing, etc.).

I have the Claude Pro account and pay (currently) $20.00 USD and nothing more, you must have it set to purchase tokens if you run into 4-5 hour limit

As I mentioned earlier, I also have a Pro account. If I’m being asked for those amounts, it’s because the feature I’m using is using up my tokens. I don’t have anything set up to recharge my tokens; it just tells me that I’ve used up the ones I had. In any case, I don’t really care—I’ve found another option that doesn’t give me that problem.

From what I understand, you have a subscription and if you only connect with it, you may hit session/week limits and never pay anything more (unless you buy more tokens to continue working).

From what you are saying, it looks like (besides your Pro account) you connect with their API services and the billing is separate. If you create apps that use the API service, then this could be the case.

If you are on Claude Pro and use 5-Hour Rolling Session limits then you wait unless it is set up to use paid tokens. I use my Pro daily and run into limit but have never seen charges as you describe.
I’m glad you found something that works for you though

Examples of the work produced.

When this was discussed the last time you were told in detail why your token consumption was so high and why you had to pay so much. Did you understand that?
