Did you submit it as an unsigned MSIX? Without self-signing it for tests?
I submitted the self signed one.
Am testing now Advanced Installer Express, (its from the MS store) and is free.
It seems far easier process (at least so far and saves you all the bloat you get from recording existing installer)
Hmm wondering if it also works by submitting a non-signed package.
Anyways, thanks for the updates. Really valuable info.
It doesn’t matter. For testing it needs to be signed. And we found the self-signing is simple as one click (Using MSIX Hero to create the certificate) and importing it to your local machine key store, and use it in the MSIX Tool to sign it.
So the way is self-signing.
I was testing Install Forge, just a normal install, but no need of a script, and no hidden paid surprises.
Also interested in your Advanced Installer Express findings.
I finished making with Advanced Installer Express.
I think result is better in every way, no random crap in registry. And far more things are set all sorts of image sizes for store and better setup for the file types, its just over all more solid.
Though I am not submitting again to the App store any time soon so cannot really be 100% sure that nothing is wrong.
I have unpacked both packages and compared though and its looking very good. And far more maintainable in the Advanced Installer Express.
It also helped me set some flags to let things in ProgramData get “Migrated” or “Preserved” when I make updates, which I would have had no idea how to do in the Generate MSIX from Inno solution. This is very important part since else all the App settings get lost every time update comes.
(I am pretty sure the Express is free, or at least have not found indication that its not so far).
I guess it is, I just remember reading someone complaining about something like trying to do something and being said “this is a premium feature, buy version VVVV”, or something, and not being able to do whatever he wanted without buying a more advanced version (maybe fixing something he did without redoing all tasks again? Edit?).
Anyway, I’ll try it soon.
Better than using one installer and the MSIX Packager separated for simple tasks. ![]()
Edit:
Found the message. I guess the guy was limited to a 30 days trial. Not sure if triggered by clicking at any “premium feature” or all Express is a 30 days trial.
Yea I saw that one also before I started.
