They do not. Using Gravatar is no different than linking to an image.

The nice thing about Gravatar is that they filter for inappropriate content, but I do understand not wanting to create another account so this feature is now enabled. If any inappropriate content is uploaded, we will have to re-evaluate. It’s available now if you go to your Preferences and click the edit icon next to Profile Picture.
