No, DRM means Digital Rights Management, which encompasses managing your digital rights to the software you write. DRM with software usually refers to whatever system is used to prevent friends from sharing floppy disks.

Now, people buy directly from Apple and run it on their machine.

It depends on the market. Some markets despise the app store. Others find it to be a source of easy-to-crack software. I’ve built an end-to-end Xojo-code system for handling purchases, fulfilling license keys, and software activation outside of the Mac App Store.
