And for Linux, all that is needed is to ensure that the package libpodofo-dev (LGPL) is installed on the system, it is shared by many apps. The tools (GPL) are the optional libpodofo-utils package (I mentioned it just for information).

Nop. Transparency is still not available in PDFDocument… but among the features to implement.
