Paddle .. a new story

By default Paddle offers PayPal, all known creditcards and bank transfers.

In the past I got a lot of people asking why I only offer PayPal as a payment methode, because they do not like PayPal.
With Paddle I have PayPal and 2 important paying methodes. Thats a win-win for sure.

Here is a default payment screen when using Paddle (you can change it though).

I also like the fact that I can use Coupon codes now … always wanted to do that.

Nice.

Can you, with Paddle use a purchase link that include the product price? the tax? etc… as I can do with Paypale? I mean, in Paypal you don’t have a product list, you can place it all in the URL. That is convenient is you have the prices centralized somewhere.

… ok, I respond to myself, yes you can: https://www.paddle.com/docs/checkout-links That’s great!..
Except VAT… I handle VAT myself, not sure if you can ask Paddle not to handle VAT ??..

Why would you handle VAT yourself? Thats an odd duck…

One of the reason to use B2B is that you do not need to handle VAT which is a real dreadful task (and you can get high fines - as I did - when not done properly).

My accountant does the work and since I have plenty of VAT to be refunded right now I compensate one with the other. I have been almost a decade using Paypal and handling VAT myself. Every month I need to adjust the VAT rates indeed.

Interesting comment: we moved to Stripe recently (from an ancient Yahoo store) and couldn’t be happier. Technical support has been great, and even better is their real-time chat support - I’ve had them fix a problem with a customer’s blocked credit card basically in real time.

Well, my contact with Stripe about one year ago was not very pleasant. Maybe they made some progress.

Do you use their webhook ?

We use Stripe through their Web API using our Opencart Server. Very very easy integration and works very well. Stripe’s web management is very good IMO also.

I also found Clickbetter https://clickbetter.com/index.php
They offer an IPN system https://clickbetter.com/ClickBetter-IPN-Documentation.pdf and an affiliate system. However they are twice as expensive as paddle.

I just go see Paddle. Hallucinating, this is a pure copy of Stripe, including the checkout, but two times more expensive.

I ones looked at Stripes but they do not have PayPal. As Michel said, PayPal is a must have, otherwise you will loose sales for sure.
I also remember having bad/slow feedback on questions. And if I am not mistaken I found some bad reviews claming they hold payouts longer than needed and charge every wire transfer to an Europe bank. I never look at it again though.

Didn’t know about Clickbetter: but at first sight no way to set fixed prices in EUR?

Anyhow, in the meantime I decided to go with Paddle. Their support is really second to none - to be honest: one of the fastest I ever encountered.

Just another vote for Stripe, which we use for both our monthly subscription SaaS product and our utility-billing products. It is a genuine full stack solution, as they claim, and our user sign-up, plan selection, card management, billing and account history is completely automated via the Stripe API and callbacks into our own app.

Edit: I should add that we’re purely B2B.

Stripe’s website is pure marketing yadda yadda. Do I care that they got 300 mio in funding? Not really. No Paypal is a dealbreaker for B2C.

I don’t feel like having only one processor, would it be Paypal, is a good idea. Although I have done that for years, my worst nightmare is that now that Paypal is independent from eBay they start doing funny stuff. And they do somewhat, with changes in the user interface that are often quite illogical, and constant flux in security. One week everything is rosy, the next I get warnings about my listener.

I would have loved to add Stripe, to have a plain credit card solution, but as I said, they did not make it very easy. After reading testimonies here, I may have a second look. One thing is for sure, there are customers who definitely do not like Paypal. And others that would not buy without it.

You know which service can avoid double conversion of currency?
Like I get paid in euro and would like to not loose 5% for converting to US Dollar and back.

Paddle.

I was referring to their account back office management for our transactions and not their marketing website just to be clear from my posts above

Yep. Paddle looks like a copy of Stripe, with fewer features, but at 2+ times the price.

Do not confuse the functionality of Stripe and Paddle.

Paddle offers a few different services, but is really designed for desktop software developers.
You can see the features they offer for desktop developers here: https://www.paddle.com/features#desktop
Among those features you’ll note things like Licensing, Activation, and Usage Statistics.

Stripe is merely a payment processor and does not offer any of those features.

So yes, Paddle is more expensive, but if you’re using Paddle solely as a payment processor you are using it wrong.
