It’s been that way since at least 2005. Seems there’s always been one “usable” release per year, the rest having various deficiencies. I use the analogy of finding that one comfortable place on an old sofa, where you’re not being poked by broken springs.
Hope Windows gets focus for the next release to come out.

Because Michel’s prerogative is to choose his development tool in all freedom. If I don’t like DLL hell and VC Redistribuable, it is my privilege. To hell complexity if it serves no other purpose than make my life miserable. I held onto RS 2007 until 2010 or so for just the same reasons. Just as I can use other tools than Xojo if need arises. Development has been like that since the early days.
It is foolish to believe new is necessarily better. Sure it may have more features. But what if I don’t give a damn for the new bells and whistles ? The idea to produce a perfect version every year is borderline naive, and surely utopic.
I am confident they will get there. I am waiting this week for a 2550 x 1600 graphic card and will start experimenting HiDPI. At that point, the new technology will make sense, so even if 2016R2.1 TextArea is still bugged for me, it will be OK for the next version (they fixed it remarkably fast). At that point I will probably do the jump.
Nobody but you talks about perfect. Which should give you a moments pause to consider if your answer is appropriate.
I’m talking about stable, free of major bugs, and as free as possible of minor bugs. MacOS X Snow Leo is still famous and considered the best OS ever by many. And Apple is at risk of loosing that vaunted “it just works” reputation since going to a 12 month release cycle.
Xojo does not have that reputation, and the Rapid Release Model seems to put Xojo into perpetual beta mode. I have stayed on RS2012R2.1 for the bulk of my work but have now decided to move up to Xojo. I’m still trying to work out which release will actually let me complete my work. And I feel strongly that I really, really shouldn’t have to do that.
Why do you feel the need to be adversarial that way ?
That is precisely an excellent example. Even Apple, with its yearly release cycle, produces better versions than others along the years. Whatever the cycle, that is bound to happen.
