Is Xojo really AppleSilicon native?

Mountain out of a molehill indeed. And you’re nothing like Donald Trump - if you were, I would cancel my subscription and my trip to London

Out of all of the things we can complain about, this is not one of them. We should choose our battles wisely.

as I did, and several other here

These days I only use it for hobby projects. I would not be willing to write a single line of professional code in XOJO because I just don’t have the confidence in it anymore.

I hear this very often these days from companions here in the community. Unfortunately we felt the same.

Maybe a good question: Will Xojo ever be 100% AS native (incl. linker)? If the answer is yes, we do not have to worry about this anymore and we can go on and code instead.

That’s what Geoff said at my understanding. They didn’t want to wait for Apple before releasing a feature that helps already many ( including myself ), especially the majority who have Rosetta installed anyways and have never heard something about a “linker”.

Marketing is a difficult topic on its own. I don’t do a lot of marketing, but I still lie a bit as every release fixes a lot of things, but I might not advertise “bugs” or missing features, I have already noticed but aren’t fixed/implemented yet. I think that’s what most of us do.

As a happy owner of an M1 MacBook Pro I’m super happy with this release. I really appreciate the improved speed and memory usage of the IDE.

Underpromise and overdeliver, and don’t bs your customers - simple.

That leads to a good reputation and positive feelings towards product(s) and company, which translate into customer loyalty.

Examples are MBS, Serif with their Affinity products (Photo, Designer, Publisher), Pixelmator, BBedit, Scrivener, …

Well if it isn’t then we’d all be in trouble starting the day that Apple released an OS Version without Rosetta. And Apple itself would be in trouble for the same reason. So I think we can take that as a “yes” and end this thread without wasting more time.

When I read this forum, I sometimes feel that some people are just waiting for Xojo team make a mistake to fall on them.

They just had to add a * when then wrote “M1 Native” and write at the bottom that a small part of the builder still need Rosetta.
If the question id “Did Xojo lie in absolute?”, the answer is yes. If the question is “is it a big lie, does it change many things for us, would we have done things differently if we have known it before?”, the answer is no.

As far as I understood, Xojo did the job for M1, and they use a third part which is not optimized.

This thread has really run the course of meaningful discussion, so I’m going to go ahead and lock it before things get (further) out of hand.

Xojo is working on getting the ARM linker up and running, and it probably won’t be very long before we see that. Thank you to all who participated in this discussion and shared your views.
