Dark Mode doesn’t require all controls to have a dark background color, does it? My view’s background is black. On that background I have a rectangle which is lighter to separate from the background and on that rectangle I have the Date Picker.

If the default text color for dark mode isn’t high enough contrast from your background, your background is way too light for dark mode.
