Documentation in pdf?

Dash has a Xojo docset that gets updated regularly. That’s what I use for offline documentation.

Phil

Pretty sure that gets updated from the built in LR since all that is JUST in a db
That also mean things like the user guide and other references arent in it

A couple of quick and discrete tests indicate you would only need to go 3 or 4 levels deep to get most of it, and the site already throttles via the robots.txt file requests. Is there an objection to crawling the site at the speed set by those requests? It is quite slow - about one file every 20 - 30 seconds so it would take some time. But hard to imagine that impacting other’s access.

you’ve been asked not to so any consequences about being restricted etc are your own doing

The rational given was not to slow the site. My mouse finger is one hellovalot quicker than the throttled access. Sitesucker can be told to ignore the delay request, which might slow the site. There are plenty of robots crawling the site all the time I’m sure, the reason for that file is to allow access that is acceptable. But I get why they might not want to give permission in an open forum.

It would be nice to be offered an alternative. For awhile I can continue to use the 2018 pdf version - but that will become less useful over time.

Doesn’t the wiki have a database?
Couldn’t Xojo provide interested parties a dump of the database tables for Current version?
Or Jon could use the db included with Xojo already.

Not completely sure, but I think the db contains the language reference, this is accessible within Xojo by selecting Help. The same thing is in the iOS app referenced above. Neither are nearly as comprehensive as the User Manual, which used to be included until this year.

they could once they clean out defined users & their passwords

the db included is NOT the db from the entire wiki
just part of it

You can do it with Nuance PowerPDF Standard but you have to buy this program. Just choose “File” then “New” and “Create from webpage”. The final results will be PDF pages.

I think it is better to use this solution because like Xojo stated, you will get banned when you use applications like Site Sucker.

I tried it and have already 8 pages converted to PDF with this very slow internet connectiong (Botswana).

I hope this helps.

I actually tried a few pages and the only thing you get is that there is no text on this page and that you are not allowed to create the page.

So where there is no or poor internet, you are out of luck with Xojo. Sad but true.

It should be nice when there would be a book about Xojo but its community is too limited to be profitable. Also nowadays, ebooks are quickly copied which will not help either.

I already had such ideas like a course, ebook but it is simply not profitable. However, there are some things you can do.

You can buy an application like AllavSoft and download the Xojo webinars when you have an internet connection. Even when your internet connection is slow, you can do it overnight. Believe me, Xojo will not like it either but there is nothing they can do to stop you and you can watch for what you paid for.

Hope you find a solution which will help you.

Not sure what the Nuance program would do that isn’t already built into OSX? I can easily create a pdf of any user manual web page. Less easy to click through and do 700 pages or so. A locally referenced html folder would be best as all the links would work.

On a side note, I would pay $100.00 for a spiral bound, lay flat edition of the docs and reference guides.
