Continuous crashes on 2022r3.1

Yesterday it crashed twice after build an ios project, but today I’ll try the 3.2 version

Ian, I use MBS plugins and the databases one (only cubesqlserver and mysql, this one provided with xojo)

As others have said it appears to be an Apple issue loading libraries. Plug-ins use that so it is likely worth minimising the number installed to only those you are using. Just to minimise the chance of the random crash.

I’m lucky enough to have never seen this crash. But the only plug-ins I have installed are the stock ones, and I don’t use those. I guess I’ll be plagued by the issue all day, now I’ve said that. Unless it is because I’m on the English UK locale.

I don’t use any plugins or the stock ones either. So I have moved the latter to a folder named “Unused Plugins”. This speeds up the IDE launch.

Yup, I keep thinking I should do that.

The IDE itself loads 17 dylibs itself.

And the IDE loads 18 internal plugins.

If you have the crashes, you can try using Plugin Pro to unpack the plugins, which speeds up loading and may run the security checks less open.

Heh. Corporate IT required us to update to the latest macOS 12 via a dialog at startup and one of our developers got bit by this yesterday as she had no option to delay since she was out on PTO during the ‘grace’ period. It upgraded her to Ventura (macOS 13) rather than 12. She (and our boss) were very unhappy about that. My point is that sometimes upgrades are not in your control.

And sometimes (after a long time without troubles) we can forget to wait until .1 or .2 or…

and for a vast majority of ‘normal’ users and upgrade won’t hurt anything. But if you are a developer, or have some specialized hardware/software it’s a risky proposition until the .1 or .2 release.

Another thing to be aware is the last .x update.

Some years ago, Apple started to add parts of major features that will appeared in the next major version… And I had to wait until the next major version (!) and suffer in silence or re-install the previous minor version.
In this case, the problem is… how do I know this is the last minor version and is there something that will bother me in it ?
NB: I am in this business (game ?) since the beginning of the 80s… and I stopped to count the traps I fall into… since then !

I never was able to connect my m1 MacBook Pro to external Display (via hdmi), excepted at a vendor Display (none of my two display “exists” on my m1).

Maybe this year’s Black Friday will shows me a good price on an external display ? (but I will check before buying one).

Agreed. I was trying to download into a separate partition - probably mistakenly the old way by grabbing the updater halfway through and pointing at a new target. But the download seemed to stop toward the end and looked like it had died. I thought it had stopped and while I was researching how to do it properly the blessed thing shut down the computer and reloaded the new software. Obviously it hadn’t died but was still working in the background and I don’t recall it giving me an option as to where to install it.

Maybe the update 13.0.1 that was deployed now correct this.

People said the beta wasn’t…

It did this to me also, I got called away during the download process and when I came, it had overwritten Monterey.

So it appears that the software update mechanism doesn’t give you the option to choose where to install any more. I ended up installing Monterey on the blank partition that I had set-up for Ventura.

When I installed Ventura on my second Mac, I followed one of the online tutorials for setting it up in a separate APFS container, so it doesn’t nerf my Big Sur partition (which I still need).

I didn’t use that before… very useful tool! Thanks to Christian and to @Tim_Parnell too! This make our life better

My impression from what I’ve read is that it depends on what launched it. In my case, I went to the App Store and downloaded Ventura. When I launched the updater it definitely gave me a choice, so it may be that they’re assuming that if you used the system update mechanism, that you actually want to update the current OS.

That is what I used - confirming your suspicion.
