I’m too old for the Rechtschreibreform or learning by ear.

I have a little test app at http://www.mothsoftware.com/downloads/imap.zip . Not signed and not notarised. A double-click did nothing at all. No error message - just nothing. But with right mouse-click I was able to run the app just fine. BS 11.2/M1.

I worked as an editor for several publishers at that time, so there was no choice of learning or not. :relaxed:

I’m not at my computer at the moment, but I will try the file later …

That’s why I’d like to get feedback from you about trying to open the app using the Option key while using the “Open” item in the contextual menu. If the message changes as it should (asking you if you’re sure your want to open the app rather than just preventing the launch), we’d know it’s a real Mac OS message (albeit an “alternate” one).
Try the app whose Beatrix has put a link. Normally, you should get the more standard message, the one others have already seen, with her app. If you get the “expected” message, the one you’re getting would seem “weird”.
If you still get the same message with her app, then you have a valid message that, for whatever reason, is different than the one we (aka the other users who have seen it) got.

This Permissions Error does also appear for people, who actually have a permissions error with a sub component of their application, the code signing appeared to be correct and was accepted by the OS, but days later they could no longer run the application, getting this error dialog.

It is why I prioritized the Permissions Reset functionality in App Wrapper 4.

If you want to build an application, and run it on more than one computer, you’re expected to join Apple’s developer program, pay an annual fee, to code sign and Notarize your application for distribution.

Otherwise you must re-sign it on every single computer than you intend to use it on, and for each and every single update or change that you make to that application.

@Beatrix: Unfortunately the download doesn’t work with your link.

@Arnaud: As I said – there IS no security alert, no matter if Option key is pressed or not. Always the same error message. In the system settings there is no sign that the app has been tried to open.

@Sam: In the past I gave one or the other app to my brother and there had never been a problem with it. After allowing the app to open everything was fine. So there should be no problem to open the app on another computer.

If you like, you can download the compiled app(s) > here. The 64-bit app was compiled with my MacBook (doesn’t run on my Mac mini; no Intel issue, universal app compiled with the MacBook doesn’t run as well), the universal app with my Mac mini (doesn’t run on the MacBook; 64-bit compiled the same).

The link to my test app works here.

I tried the Intel version and got the same error that you got. Then I nuked all extended attributes and reset the permissions with the app BatchMod. I don’t think I got the “malicious software” dialog:

Ah, that’s good to see. Can you describe how you did that exactly? I’m not very familiar with what you suggest.

BatchMod only does what you can do in Termina, too, but I was too lazy to use Terminal:

I didn’t know that one, thank you very much! I must try that first thing in the evening.

just try it on my MacBook M1 with rosetta Big Sur version 11.2.3. I can just double click and open as normal. don’t need to right click.

try again on Mac mini M1 with 11.2.3 and without rosetta and open right away

BatChmod did the trick. Thanks a lot again!

You can also try using Permissions Reset, which will at least attempt to reset the permissions correctly for subcomponents.

https://www.ohanaware.com/permissionsreset/

It’s a modified version of the Permission Reset engine used in App Wrapper, but made available for FREE and for everyone to use.

Edit: I forgot that I wrote about this back in February! (I just updated the article). You don't have permission to open the application or App will damage your computer. You should move it to the Trash.

Further addendum, I discovered this afternoon that mismatched provision profile and entitlements will also display this error. Yeah for generic error messages.

Same problem.
If I pass the App under Permission Reset 2 (Permissions Reset 2), I found I can open it

Batchmod seems to be not supported anymore. It is still on MacUpdate but if you click the developper website there is nothing: https://lagentesoft.com .
Do you know a similar software?

No one tells us how (s)he “moves” (copy) the application from a computer to the other (befor getting the error message).

Copy the application into a MemoryStick or an external hard disk (either HD / SSD) and copy it to the other computer.

Usually, here, I never get the warning message (even if the target computer is running Windows).

Of course, things may have changed in the last few months since I do that for the last time. (Intel → m1 → WIndows 11).

I have the application installed on my Mac for a long time. I wanted to check if an update was out and I see the website is down. There was another website http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft but it’s down too.
There won’t be an ARM version, that’s why I ask if someone know another software.
