Yosemite is released - How do you feel?

You may or may not know how I feel about Yosemite, but I’d like to know how others feel about upgrading to Yosemite.

Since Mavericks was released around the same time last year, I was expecting Yosemite to come soon. And just backed up the Mavericks HD of my iMac today. Now I have started downloading the final Yosemite, thanks to your post.

Nevermind the eventual personal issues with the new design, like it or not, it is now the current issue, we might as well adopt it right away, like a lot of customers will.

I think I’m going to hold off on my main machine - at least until my Retina iMac arrives (where I’ll have no choice)… Doh! I can’t order a Retina iMac in Taiwan yet :frowning:

I don’t think I’m going to update until after the .1 or .2 release.

One thing I learned about Apple is… once you buy something that works VERY well… turn off the Apple news ticker other wise your wallet will be empty

seriously… had no idea it was released today until you posted about it just now :stuck_out_tongue:

Updated a few machines today, all running smooth and I really like the new look.

I also noticed a little speed boost in my system, very happy to see that.

Overall, very happy with this release.

Except Yosemite is free. As was Mavericks. And Mountain Lion.

I just CarbonCopied my HD and started to download Yosemite. Then I paused it, because it estimates 3h. In theory I could get it in some minutes. So I wait some days until the main rush is over.

Why would I download? Well, why not? I accept that anything is changing all the time. Things are evolving and impermanent it is.

So let’s see what kind of new issues will come up with it, and solve them.

Best OSX ever

Updated everything overnight. It Looks great, Continuitiy rocks!

I think I wrote 10-14 days ago about Yosemite vs. Windows 8.1. Wanted to finally have a look at Yosemite and found it ugly. Then I had to test something for Windows 8.1 and was totally horrified: ugly ugly ugly and totally sucky useability. Incredibly awful. Afterwards I didn’t think Yosemite that ugly anymore. But it’s still like teletubby land.

Normally, the last warning before release is the availability of the Take Control books. For the first time ever there was nothing before.

I’ve been using Yosemite and Xcode 6 since Developer Preview 2, Can’t even look at Mavericks anymore  neither Xojo.

I have been running Yosemite on an external drive since June, and all I can say is that it is robust enough. And I do not have the luxury to not be able to run it, since customers will extremely soon start using it, especially when it is a free upgrade.

Seems Apple intends to have the same adoption curve as new versions of iOS.

? ? ?

Forget Windows 8.1. The whole 8.x is an utter nonsense. Download Windows 10 for free at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview

Amazingly enough, there are some similarities with Yosemite. Not that Windows be as powerful, but it is just as robust, and the idiotic Windows 8 Metro yucky ugly thing is reduced to a tiny page in the Start Menu…

When the Yosemite installation started, I could not believe my eyes, when it said “2 minutes remaining”. Knowing the usual time to install, that sounded much too quick.

Now that was over half an hour ago, and Mr. Beach Ball is still rotating in the corner of the screen. It still takes forever. Sigh…

I thought the slow boot was due to the external boot, just hope that’s true. Otherwise I’ll have to do like others, never turn off my iMac. There goes the energy efficient OS

Personaly I don’t care about Yosemite yet. I will wait some month and then buy a new MacBook or IMac with a quad core CPU, more Ram and SSD and then change to Yosemite.

I had used the developer preview without a problem, now the final version showed some rough edges.

  • First, after install, I get an NSStatus saying “Optimising software. Performance may be affected”. Huge understatement. So slooow. About one quarter an hour later, the thing disappears and Yosemite becomes usable.
  • At the same time, tried to launch App Store, could not connect :frowning:
  • Launched Chrome, it got stuck on “Resolving host” then decided there was no page. Looked on the Internet, the issue has been reported by several source. Solutions here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1721303

Seems fair now. Apple Store finally connected and Chrome seems to be its old self. Scary moment for a while…

Only bad thing I could notice that far is GPGMail is not working anymore. Besides that, I enjoy the speed boost it brought. Not limited to graphics; ABAddressBook (in that case: the Xojo implementation of it) seems to be much faster too.

The 10.10 developer libraries have not yet been loaded by Xcode (I use its library to look up System functions). I know, it‘s 64 bit anyway, but do you know if Metal will get ported to OS X too? And for those who miss the Sharing Services: Is the new NSExtension Class 64 bit too?

Oh, so three days from now like iOS 8 did? :stuck_out_tongue:

that’s how it starts :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember a while back actually buying Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro 6 only to find out a year later AFTER I bought them that it would no longer be supported in the next release of the OS X due to Rosette being removed.

So what are the choices… not upgrade and keep the programs you enjoy using or upgrade and get to re-buy all over again?

“re-buy”???

Strange term for upgrading.

Considering that Final Cut Pro X and Logic dropped massively in price (you can pay for the upgrade with the money you saved by not upgrading Windows) I don’t see a problem.

Wish I could say the same for Xojo
