XDev Magazine Issue 11.5...

Up to now I have been happy to see a new issue of XDev Magazine in my inbox. I have also expressed my appreciations of Marc’s efforts to produce an interesting magazine. However, this time I was quite surprised and disappointed. Let me summary it:

  1. Most articles are only usable if I work with the Mac platform. If I had knew that the magazine explicit target the Mac platform I could have accepted it. But now and with a magazine that explicit nearly only target the Mac platform it becomes of no use as I’m using Windows/Linux.

  2. The Navigator article got me thinking if this was a paid article and not an editor article. Obviously the Navigator in Xojo should be treated as untouchable and no one is allowed to swear in the church. I have never before take part of such a crappy article like that.

  3. The overall impression is that this issue of the magazine was rushed through in a very unprofessional way. Leaving the subscriber in a state of asking himself why am I subscribing to the magazine?

I have seen the other thread about XDev magazine but I don’t want to hijack someone else thread.

Yes, I’m one of the dudes that lurk around here and only popups when some simple shitty subject like this one comes up. Yes, I don’t contribute with anything else for that matter on this board.

Since when were contributions required for the privilege of opining about a product we’re paying for?

Thanks Dennis! I made millions writing that article.

BTW Dennis, you and Markus can both be proud that you’re the names on the reason why I’ve decided and communicated to Marc that I will not be writing Web Edition articles in Paul’s old place. I had previously committed to doing so, and hoped to do more than the basics with which many seemed unsatisfied. Marc thinks I might calm down in a week, but nope. I have seen some people’s true colors in the past day and they are ugly.

This is not about not being able to take criticism. It’s simply about who I see the vocal audience as. You and Markus are not people I want to volunteer my energy helping. It’s possible for adults to disagree without being disagreeable, even on very contentious issues. That seems lost on many people here.

I find your last paragraph to be quite ironic

Why Dave? Have I called your volunteer work output, or that of anyone else, “crappy”? Did I make a factual error in my article? As I’ve said elsewhere, I am quite happy to accept corrections on the record. Or is it really that I presented something that bluntly disagrees with what one faction here thinks? I know it’s the latter.

never mind… you are too narcissistic to recognize the irony anyways

i can only think of 2 words to such a public post: ''grow up"

And Dave… Weren’t you the guy who posted the mockup/beta of your software and got a whole bunch of “that’s crap” comments from people here? It made me sick reading it. Curious if you saw me pile on there.

Grow up and do what Karen? Write articles so people like Dennis and Markus (who contribute nothing) can come to the forums and call them crap? Explain to me what that gets me.

if you don’t understand why that post was juvenile (your decision to change your mind about writing is not it) I don’t think i can explain it to you.

if you want professional conduct from others you need to exhibit yourself.

Dave, you make the world a worse place for all of us by rationalizing that kind of discussion. I don’t need air blown up my backside, but the ticket price for the opportunity to boo me off stage is always going to be higher than the ticket price to kick back and enjoy the show.

Karen, ok, so you have a problem with the post, not the decision. Fine. Some people are uncomfortable with honesty. I’ll count you in that group. It’s the economist in me. Clarifying incentives usually shed the most light on sticky situations.

I am closing this thread now. As a reminder our forum etiquette is posted https://forum.xojo.com/4307-forum-etiquette-and-notices. Please keep this in mind as you are posting and discussing with others. If you can’t play nice then you can’t play at all
