0xEd and Hexfiend are the 2 hex editors for the Mac. Hexfiend is slightly newer and can do a diff between 2 files.
What about Synalyze it? Have you heard of it? What would you recommend?
I have had a look at it - I think. But it’s way overkill for what I need.
synalyze is good for reverse-engeneering the format of an unknown file
it’s overkill otherwise, hexfiend is free and enough.

For a good no nonsense hex editor, try HexFiend.
+1 HexFiend - the compare/diff feature is super handy.
