Of late, It has been giving signs of failure (not ejecting) - but this time, I think it’s really the end of it. Sad.
It is (was) a SONY 5 disc carousel model - probably around 20yrs old!!! That’s a long time for an electronic + physical device to work, so I’ve had a good run.
I’m not sure where to next.
Yeah, I know I can copy all my CD’s to my hard disk, but I don’t really want to do that - I don’t want to have to start up my computer just to hear my music.
A while back, I think there were some external hard disk recorders that you could copy everything to?
I had a nice Technics one too. 5 carousel. Random and/or Spiral. You could set it up, lay back and listen to what you wanted in a random, but also known progression, if that’s what you wanted.
@Beatrix, Yep, spotify and all that is good. YouTube is also great to find and listen to some old tunes - it’s fantastic. I’m old enough to remember when YouTube had no advertising!!
Don’t get me wrong - I DO love youtube and the like.
It’s funny because I do remember an indecent many years back (15 or so) when I let loose some friends to be able to use my “HiFi” system. I woke up the next day to find that “carriage” draw on the Sony CD player was just going in and out, in and out. I tried to fix it by turning it off - it didn’t work, so I “whacked” it with my hand. - it “fixed” it - until now.
I’ll have to look at second hand stores for a new machine - or change my way of thinking?.. But no - I like having a “physical” copy of the music, this comes from the old “Vinyl” records days - it felt as though you “owned” something.
The problem is my HiFi system is now down I could re-wrire my TV or my blu-ray player into the back of my amp, but too much work and certainly not as good as the carousel - but doable.
Maybe it’s time to change my philosophy on how I hear music - but I don’t want to.
I also had one of those 5-disc carousel thingies that snuffed it, rendering the hi-fi system defunct. I repurposed an old iPad as a replacement and ripped all my CDs onto it. Much more convenient, and I didnt have to deep-six the amp and speakers.
Instead connecting a wireless Sound Bar to the TV device, I made an analog cable-based connection from it to an external speaker placed near to the sofa located at the other end of the room. Then, I added a sound mixer device to the set-up, and another analog cable-based connection from a hardware CD player through the same sound mixer into the same speaker.
And Quite contradictory, in that I have used YouTube to make a point. However, I would prefer not to “rely” on YouTube because that means you have to rely on your ISP just to hear Music?
That is one thing I can’t abide by or get my mind around.
Liked it so much I made two more so we can stream in three areas of the house now from our computers, phones, or tablets. I think there is some similar software for Android if you’re not an Apple user, but I don’t remember what it was.
I had a buddy of mine that has a 3D printer make some cases for it, so it turned out to be a neat solution and kept me from spending too much dough on a homepod.
I do see and understand the things and ideas you are saying. Sometimes, perhaps those “greater” ideas will be left to future generations to sort out. That’s what happens when you get older.
When some day, into the future (and not too far ahead), when all these comments are erased, I’ll be laying back, listening to my music having purchased a new hardware device and others will not be able to listen to their favorite music tunes unless sign up to whatever tunes etc . . .
Lay back, and smoke your biggest ever spliff possible - even that may not help, but I can’t see it will make it any worse.
