Warning when using a slider to provide zoom functionality

Microsoft owns the patent on using a Slider to zoom in and out and they’re suing Corel over it! So avoid using a slider to Zoom in and out.

Crazy.

If you read the article Corel kinda started it

such a BS patent in either case
The USPTO really needs to get its act together and toss these
The fact the patent was issued in 2007 long after both Corel & MS had shipped software using it should have invalidate the patent as prior art existed but …

Just dont put the slider in the bottom right or dont use + and - as the indicators on each end
Then you should be safe from stupid patent lawsuits

Consider the very first MS product in the early 80’s was based on stolen code.

makes you wonder why anyone follows the UI guidelines…

Apparently, a lot of map providers have not heard of Microsoft claim. They often use a vertical slider with + and -. Unless vertical means it is not the same as a horizontal slider ?

Court drama is often so ridiculous…

Following this, I’ve decided to trademark the trademark symbol.

I’m going to make a fortune.

…or a paradox.
