VMWare Issue

I have managed to create an El Capitan VM. I did this by adding a new VM and starting it up with restoring from my restore disk. It downloaded my current configuration (one and a half hours) and installed that. Then, inside the VM, I downloaded El Capitan and upgraded. This all worked but took nearly a whole day to do!

I have a question. I have already downloaded El Capitan and have the ‘Instal OS X El Capitan’ app which I have placed in my backup drive without installing on my main machine. Could I have used this in creating my new VM and, if yes, how?

The second question is this. As I now have a VM with El Capitan I cannot seem to change the screen resolution. It is fixed at 1024x768 and this is the only option in the Display option in System Preferences. How can I get a display option equivalent to my main machine ( I have an iMac, non-retina)?

Thanks in advance.

Simon.

As far as I remember I simply copied the Captain installer into the Yosemite VM and installed from there.

Have you tried to make the window larger for the VM?

How did you copy the file? I couldn’t do that, or I couldn’t find a way to copy it.

I have maximised (full screen) the window and it has just enlarged everything. I only have the one option under system preferences for the screen and that is 1024x768.

Sounds like you need to (re-)install VMware Tools. See under the Virtual Machines menu.

You have to setup your shared folder so that you can access the data from the host OS.
