Upgraded to Monterey and Xcode 13.2. Things are VERY slow

As I wanted to get back into iOS after being away for almost a year, I had to upgrade a couple of things. Now on Monterey and updated Xcode to the latest 13.2. This is on an iMac from 2018, so not very old and still has a ton of memory

Today I was starting to work on an old project, and it seems that when Simulator is open, everything else on the Mac is extremely slow. When working, I usually have open Safari and Outlook (Office 365). Just clicking on an email in Outlook brought out the beachball for at least a minute with each click. Safari the same

This isn’t so much of any issues with Xojo. Just wanting to see if my experience today is normal given the Mac I have and the new OS and Xcode I am running, or if today was just a fluke and going forward should be better. Hoping you don’t say I should’ve stayed clear of Monterey or the latest Xcode. Those took forever to install! Tell me it will be better tomorrow

Ps… I’ll probably be posting more over the next several weeks as my iOS/mobile coding is a tad rusty, and there’s been a lot of changes recently

On my 2018 Macbook pro, I noticed that Spotlight is running crazy when the simulator is open.
The system isn’t slow but the battery can be drained in one hour.

Same here on the MacBook Pro Late 2016. System isn’t slow but the battery time is awful when the simulator is open. Even in hibernation/sleep mode. I’m on Monterey 12.0.1, Xcode 13.1.

You might want to look at this thread:

And you might want to add points to this case:

Thanks for the replies all. Things seem to be functioning a tad better than yesterday. Still sluggish but not nearly as bad. Will keep an eye on this but “good” to hear others are noticing similar slowdowns too. Hope Apple works out the kinks

Couldn’t see how to add points. Is that only for Pro users?

It may well be. (My company has two pro licenses)

It’s not immediately obvious but you need to drag the case from the lower part of the sidebar into the section “My Top Cases” at the top. You can then rearrange your top cases to place them in the order you want (points assigned descend as your list goes down).

Active licenses get a few points, and pro licenses get more. If you don’t have an active license all slots have a value of 0 points.

Well that’s great to know! Ok, added to my top cases for some points. Thanks for the tip Tim!
