To give some background, the current auto-locking of old threads was implemented to help direct users to either find the most relevant information or post questions in new topics to encourage the sharing of the most recent data. If you wish to read more about the discussion surrounding this functionality, you can check out a couple of those topics linked below the poll. Any modifications to the auto-close system would have no effect on manually closed topics. Since Locking old topics flooded it.
