Our business is based in Canada and we are about to sell one of our applications to an American company doing business in Texas. I’ve been told by a custom agent that I will need to get a Visa (I’m not sure if it is a green card or other type of permission) to be allowed to work on a server based in United-States from Canada.
Anybody has information about US regulations concerning working from through the Internet? I’m interested in any other countries rules as well.
Pardon ?
If you physically have to go to the US then yes you’ll need special documentation - and it will vary based on the situation.
But to USE a server based in the USA if you’re in Canada you don’t need special documentation since you’re not leaving Canada.
I was driving to US from the province of Quebec to Burlington Airport. I was traveling to Dallas to attend to a conference. The agent asked me the usual questions about my trip. After I told him i was a programmer, he asked me if I knew that I would need a “permit” so I can legally work on servers based in US from Canada.
English is not my first language but I’m pretty sure I got it right. I should have informations from a government source later on about that. I’ll let you know what I get from them…
