Raspberry PI : ad hoc vs infrastructure

Hey crew! I’ve read a bunch on this but I am embarrassed to say I don’t get the distinction.

What I want to do is have my solution run on a Π and when it boots it will present itself as a hot-spot. I don’t need or want it to connect to a wider network or internet.

Is this an ad-hoc network, or a network running in infrastructure mode?

I had this working really well before, but it was on an older version of the OS and newer version break it.

Any insight or suggestions?

Try to install RaspAP.com perhaps?
