Problem w/ Xojo on SolydX 32bit

Hi all,

I’m having a slight problem on Xojo w/ SolydX 32bit. I decided to install it on an old laptop to see how it would work since it received high reviews in the linux distributions topic. I fully updated it after installing, activate the video drivers and PAE and then attempted to run Xojo. I am able to load a sample project, but as I move my cursor up into the tool bar, it insta-crashes with this in the syslog:

Apr 23 13:07:00 reliant-lt kernel: [ 186.016294] Xojo[4700]: segfault at 3ff00010 ip b6df8ff8 sp bff82390 error 4 in libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.22[b6dc6000+ab000]

Has anyone seen this or know a workaround?

@Tony Harris - I’ve not worked with SolydX, so this would be a good time for me to take a look. I have a fresh Intel server that needs a new OS and that will be a good testing point. Please stand by

No problem, I look forward to hearing your results. I had the same type of problem while running SolydX 32 in Parallels, but at that point I thought it might have been an issue with running it in Parallels since I couldn’t install the guest tools which was why I shifted to trying it on the laptop. I’m in the midst of updating SolydK now to see how that works.

I have a feeling the distro reviews / recommendations happened before the solydk update pack of 4/15 and something in that service pack broke the ability to use Xojo :frowning:

Let me give it a spin as well. I’m sorry that you’re having troubles. SolydK is a continually updated system which is a benefit and (perhaps in this case) a detraction. I’ll let you know if I see the same from my VirtualBox VM.

Just dropping a note, SolydK 32bit running in Parallels, fully updated (4/15 patch) has the same issue (I figured it probably would, but I still hoped). I may have to go back to Linux Mint on this machine (which is a bummer as I really liked the idea of rolling updates instead of re-installs every 18 months)…

One reason we don’t list many distros as officially supported (we do actually test with those)
The range of distros is simply too vast to try & officially support many
If it works - great

Which is totally understandable - I actually decided to give it a spin due to the positive report on its functionality in the thread here - I knew it was lighter weight than Mint/Ubuntu so I had hoped for good results. This is also the reason I’m asking the community if anyone had run into the error I had and if there is a work around.

I updated to Xojo2014r1.1 and everything is looking okay here. I’ve been doing most of my development on Mint 16 however. Mostly because I didn’t size the development partitions correctly. I really should start over and give SolydK a lengthier spin. KDE looks really nice.

That is odd. I also wonder if it’s something that if you install Xojo first before doing the updates it prevents the problem later (like if a library is recognized as needed and won’t get removed). I don’t quite know why I seem to be so unlucky on this one :frowning: The KDE screen really does look nice, quite an interface really.
