Opinions on Mantis

Considering moving to Mantis, from a bespoke system, for bug tracking.

Anyone any experience with Mantis? Opinions?

My opinion? Try Redmine instead.

Mantis has lots of features, but I find it rather nasty to look at.

+1 for Redmine. -1 for Mantis because it’s so ugly and untidy.

Same as Paul. But Mantis is way simpler to install than Redmine.

Yepp. I don’t even remember how I succeeded :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
But it’s worth it!

There are very detailed installation guides/How tos here.
And yes, it’s worth it!

It’s far easier to install from Bitnami. Start installer, done.

If you are having challenges getting it installed and have a dedicated machine/VM to put it on then checkout this: http://www.turnkeylinux.org/redmine

Thanks for the opinions guys. I don’t see the ugliness that you guys see in Mantis but I haven’t used it extensively (it’s used by an open-source project I’m involved in). Nonetheless, I’ll put some time into Redmine.

It’s not that it’s ugly, it’s just poor graphics.

I have Redmine running in a local Ubuntu box in my office. Now I need to move it to a VPS that has ZPanel install on it. Unfortunately, each time you create a domain, or a subdomain, with Zpanel, the Apache’s virtual hosts configuration file is entirely rewritten, wiping off all customization you may have added to it, like Redmine’s virtual host entry.
