No more coding this weekend :(

Just woke up my dev machine. iMac i7 27" and it made me sad for the first time since late 2009.
Yellow 1" vertical lines all over the screen for a few seconds then a whole lot of yellow squares covers the screen and it freezes.
Tried restart and leaving it off a while w/o success.

My guess is that my graphics card has decided to throw in the towel…

And i was supposed to submit my app to Apple on Sunday.
Everything was commited and I have TM backup but still.
sad face

Ouch

I do a lot of computer repairs.

All those vertical lines and the yellow-isch color point in the direction of your screen which is damaged.

Just try another screen, when that works it is your screen. When the result is the same it is your graphics card.

Remember, a walk in nature, in the mountains or on the beach also does wonders.

Hope you will fix your problem soon.

Have a nice weekend,

Greetings,

Chris

Go out and buy another computer immediately. Trust me, you do not want to go through withdrawal.

If i plug in one of my external screens it looks exactly the same as the iMac screen
Thanks for the tip

I have a late 2009 27" i7 iMac too… i hope that does not happen to mine!

I am hoping to get another 4ish years out of it. i will hand it down to someone else in the the house when I get a new one… They are using my old PowerMac G5 now.

That is why I keep a 13" MBP hidden behind the whiskey bottles

In times of repair, my PC can fill in. Though it really sucks, my keyboard is built for gaming. Typing code on it is awful. But it still has 1Password, Xojo, etc so it’s good enough for a week or so.

Wife knows that “in the event Norm’s MBP dies” her 27" iMac is mine until the problem is resolved :stuck_out_tongue:

I lost my 2008 15" MBP to the dreaded graphic chipset issue. We salvaged it for another 2 weeks with some thermal paste but in the end that was it! I purchased a new Windows 8 touchscreen laptop for the price of a new logic board. I do like it but caved in a month later and got a refurb Mac Mini from the Apple Store. I felt better immediately.!

That’s why I still maintain a desktop and laptop, and synchronize them before I switch from one to the other. If one fails, I can use the other until I get it repaired. (And that has happened.)

how do u connect another monitor to an iMac 27"??

depends on which version you have but
some have mini display ports see http://www.apple.com/imac/specs/ where it mentions you can use an external monitor

mine is 27" mid 2011. i think mine have thunderbolt.

Well if you check About this mac and get a system report it will tell you for sure

i guess you need a external thunderbolt monitor and not any other monitor without the thunderbolt connection

You should be able to run any kind of monitor on it not just a Thunderbolt display

Thunderbolt doubles as a Mini-DisplayPort.

Besides the already mentioned you can get an USB 2 dock with video out ports. There are some pretty nice ones out there.

Having the driver for air display for an emergency is not a bad idea either
