Next XDC suggestions
Montreal would be fun
It’s been a long time since I was there
Right around JFL in the summer would be awesome (and probably more expensive)
Indeed, there are many festivals in Montreal in the summer. The Jazz festival is among the more popular. Part of downtown is reserved for pedestrians during the festivals season.

Your camping idea is tempting. My last “real” Western Canada trip was actually camping. (I am not counting a couple of trips to the Olympic Oval to see my daughter skate)

It’s not often that you find the words “cheapest” and “New York” in the same sentence. I’d even say, you never find them in the same sentence.

I live 3,000 miles from New York. Google currently estimates that drive in “current traffic” at 42 hours. I’d love XDC in Europe, and we’ve considered it many times, but it’s not feasible right now.

Why not just host it in Austin, or Dallas? It’s in the middle of the US (easy to reach from any direction if already in the country; even outside… Dallas is one of top airport/hubs in the entire world), and there’s enough to do here to keep somebody busy for years…

I still vote for San Diego! Sun, Beaches, nice weather 360 days a year… just an idea

You heard it folks, next XDC at Dave’s house. He’ll supply the food and drinks, but bring your own sleeping bags. Pajamas optional.

No problem… just be aware my 3 basset hounds LOVE snuggling in other peoples sleeping bags

Meat pajamas not recommended.

My vote is for San Francisco (Dave’s house is a close second)

When you’re considering venues for next year’s XDC, it would be great if you could take direct flights from the major airports in Europe into account. Austin sounds like a great city, but adding connecting flights on top of a transatlantic flight always feels more daunting than a slightly longer direct flight.

I’d like to suggest a virtual XDC as a complement. One of the major costs for Xojo must be transporting & hosting their staff at XDC, and that’s why we’ll probably never see a XDC at Hobbiton.

I realise that we wouldn’t get the personal contact and networking that happens at XDC, but it would give the other thousands of users the opportunity to be in the loop.

hobbiton look amazing…

Wayne, I’d still be interested in doing a trip to Australia/New Zealand one year.
I have 80 plugin users down there.

If everyone is suggest to do XDC at home then it is only fair to suggest my home which is Jersey (not New Jersey, but the original!!). As it is also very tax friendly (it was were the company behind the original Star Wars movie was located) so it might be possible for Xojo to be here and get tax breaks as well as visiting developers  I know it is a long shot but thought it worth a plug

nope
TV and I have an understanding - hockey and the Daily Show and then I don’t get pissed off at how everything seems so dull :stuck_out_tongue:

You have to check out this video, a tv series was recorded here some 30 years ago and was a huge success in the UK and I think globally in many different languages, it was called Bergerac. The island is only about 9 miles by 6 miles but is surrounded by beaches and has the best food in the world (lots of fish!!). We are generally nice people and crime is low, probably because you cant get off the island as we have a lockdown policy, if something major happens they just close the airport and ports and the police put a ring around the island so boats cant go anywhere. We have about 90,000 people on a busy day and the best way to describe us (all islands say this) is “90 thousands p*ssed people clinging to a rock!!”. Oh and did I mention that we are also a major internet hosting centre for e-commerce and digital everything!! Checkout the Digital Jersey website (http://www.digital.je/) some of you might like the idea of hosting stuff here as we also have very strong Intellectual Property laws and highly regulated (in a good way). Numerous reports have said that if the rest of the world had had the financial regulations in place that Jersey has then the financial crises would have never happened.
