Seems that earlier this month Apple discontinued the sale of WIRED keyboards… with there only been some overstock available from 3rd party vendors like Best-Buy… but rumor has it that soon the only keyboard from Apple will be WIRELESS… and to be honest… I hate wireless keyboards/mice… (my opinion)
So. that being said… does anyone have/use a relatively inexpensive alternative … and I’m not talking those $130+ keyboards
For argument’s sake: You can have my Logitech self-charging wireless keyboard only when you pry it from my cold dead hands. Why don’t you like wireless keyboards?
Indeed all PC USB wired keyboards work wonderfully on a Mac. The only strange thing to deal with is the Cmd key is engraved with the Windows logo. Apart from that Alt-Option is the same, Ctrl as well.
My iMac 2011 wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse are great, but… Once in a while, they disconnect. From what I understand, if an old lady uses a cordless phone next door, that can badly interfere with that technology. Fortunately, the old lady is not too talkative
The whole batteries / charging thing seems kind of stupid when I’m right next to a device that’s plugged in to the wall and has power available. So what, there’s a wire on the desk, Johnny Ive can go fsck() himself.
If your hatred of wireless keyboards is related to the battery, you could actually use one of Apple’s wireless keyboards in a wired mode the whole time, using the charging cable, which is a regular Lightning to USB cable from your iPhone (one also comes in the box).
Unfortunately the same is not possible with the Magic Mouse…
I’m not saying it’s a good option for Dave, just that it’s an option if the battery is the issue. Personally I loathe wires, so the less I have on my desk, the better.
Honestly, a good old wire is the most reliable connection. And indeed does not require batteries.
I like too much the genuine Magic Mouse and the small Mac wireless keyboard, though. There is something Bang & Olufsen-esque in Apple products I thoroughly enjoy
I used to have a Bang & Olufsen TV as well. What a joy for the eyes
I change the rechargeable batteries for the mouse once a week, and the keyboard once a month. No big deal.
The PC has a corded keyboard, and the wired Apple mouse. Had to scotch tape all these messy cables not to step on them
I have run into problems that, I am convinced, occur when my neighbor down the road about ¼ mile is on his Short Wave Radio. The mouse just disconnects. Other than that specific problem I really like my Magic Mouse - except the frequent battery change.
I’m using probably the same logitech wireless keyboard that was mentioned by Roger. I like it ok but I hate the fact it doesn’t have an indicator for Caps Lock - that can be a pain when typing in passwords.

+1
This is indeed a good option if you still want to use a ‘wired’ Apple keyboard.
With the Magic Trackpad 2 you can use the the charging cable too.
Good to know; does the wireless keyboard have a numeric keypad?
Everything from Apple is more expensive, it how they can keep performing in quarterly profits, while sales are flat or downward.
The whole batteries / charging thing seems kind of stupid when I’m right next to a device that’s plugged in to the wall and has power available. Agreed; I don’t care about cables on my desk, I do care when things don’t work and IMHO wireless devices don’t last. I still have an old Microsoft Mouse which has outlasted an Apple Magic Mouse and two Magic Trackpads. And it was less than 1/5 of the price.
I need a new Mac, but I really don’t feel good giving Apple my money anymore.
Yes, Apple sell a Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad option. I bought one of the new 27" 5K iMacs a few weeks ago and I was given the option to upgrade to a numeric keyboard. I chose not to.
I’ve been using Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpads and Magic Mice/Mouses since they were launched and I can’t imagine what your resentment is towards them, but each to their own

I want to sit down and start working… not wait for it to “pair” up again
That would drive me nuts. I’ve never had to wait when using Apple’s wireless stuff. I’ve a cheap Bluetooth kb/mice for use with the Raspberry Pi and it does make me wait. Its days are numbered.

I can’t afford to replace the batteries every few DAYS… yes… I have never had them last more than a week…
The battery is built-in. It lasts, for me, 4-6 weeks at a time and as I said, you just plug it into to charge on the USB port on your Mac. You can use it while it’s charging, it makes no difference.
Can’t say it’s ever been a problem for me. On the other hand, it’s possible my Apple kit is mostly on the 5Ghz spectrum as the Time Capsule just uses whichever provides the best connection at the time. I haven’t checked.
In summary, I generally hate wireless keyboard/mice too but I really have no issue with Apple’s.
