Live Xojo built web app examples + getting started in Xojo

Hi all,

I’m brand new to Xojo and I intend on learning to build web apps for my organisation in Xojo and have a Java element to it (as that is my background) i.e. essentially for the application I’ll be developing some of the behind the scenes work will be done in Java.

In saying this I was kindly asking someone direct me towards live examples of Xojo web apps (commecrical or non-commerical). It would be nice to see the outcomes of of Xojo web app development. Below are some examples from the following forum link - https://forum.xojo.com/2015-web-apps-examples/0:

http://lightingapps.de/
http://www.ezmeter.com/cgi-bin/catalog/metercatalog.cgi
http://www.hangarbox.de/

In addition I would like to know apart from the textbook (http://xojo.com/learn/), the resources link (http://xojo.com/resources/) and youtube videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/goxojo/videos?sort=da&view=0&flow=list) are there any other well laid out beginner tutorials out there.

I look forward to using Xojo to build solid web apps.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex.

This is a topic that’s been covered quite a few times. If you look at the Web specific forum and do a little searching you’ll find more examples.

Oh, and I saw (and replied) to your Stack Overflow question (with the exact same text). There are very few questions about Xojo on that site. Most Xojo developers post here simply because it’s devoted to Xojo.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I’ll do some more digging around.

Hi all,

Having done some digging around I intend on using the following approach to develop a better grasp of (Xojo based) web application fundamentals.

Task 1: Complete pending web application learning
Time assigned: 1 week.
How I intend on completing the task:
Watch Xojo web application YouTube videos e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvmROV7Tejo

Use Xojo textbook and forums to clarify any unclear code or concepts from video tutorials.

Researching on existing UI design, development and testing fundamentals of web applications

Task 2: Refresh grasp of CRUD (create, read, update and delete) operations in relational databases
Time assigned: 2 weeks.
How I intend on completing the task:
Undertake official development tutorials in Xojo and Java around relation databases particularly PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite as these options seem to be the most supported options in relation to Xojo development.

Task 3: Complete remaining Xojo related tutorials
Time assigned: 1 week.
How I intend on completing the task:
Watch tutorials on Xojo’s YouTube channel i.e. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO8PqWKqCmo_Yrmqa82QEDg

Task 4: Look at integration of none Xojo code particularly Java in Xojo
Time assigned: 1 week.
How I intend on completing the task:
Understand the grasp of integrating Java code in Xojo.

Task 5: Build simple but functioning web app.
Time assigned: 2 weeks.
How I intend on completing the task:
Apply lessons learnt from earlier Xojo web app efforts to develop a functioning web app

Task 6: Build a local backend/database and connect web app mentioned in above row.
Time assigned: 2 weeks.
How I intend on completing the task:
Apply earlier learnt lessons to develop a simple database based on MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite. Attempt connecting web app mentioned in above row.

I appreciate any advice/suggestions.

Alex.

Oh I see my WebApp Hangarbox is listed… if you want a living example and if you do not care about german langauage then you can test ride my App here: http://hangarbox.de/hangarboxserver.cgi

My customers do run the standalone Webserver (mostly on Windows as background service) on their own PCs. Some are using small Zotac ZBoxes like this one : http://www.zotac.com/products/mini-pcs/zbox/product/zbox/detail/zbox-id18-plus.html
