is xojo free?

Hello,

Is xojo free? There are different statements. How is it current?

The development IDE is free to use and work with. You can even save projects in the proprietary binary format for free.

The paid license allows you to build your projects so that you can deploy them. Which platforms you can build for changes based on which license you buy. Certain licenses allow you to save in a plain text format that is version control system friendly.

There is a handy comparison chart here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160801110111/https://www.xojo.com/store/
(they are working on bringing it back to the new website design)

The comparison chart was added back to the store FAQ last week. You can always check it out there for the most current information!

To be a little more clear, you can’t compile for free - that is, create actual applications for anyone to run, for public or private distribution.

You can run your project for free, and you can send your source code to others so that they can run it for free in the IDE too. Basically Xojo then behaves like the old BASIC Interpreters.

If you want to sell software and distribute compiled apps then you need a license.

I’m thinking about switching from Filemaker to Xojo. I create applications for my company for my needs. If xojo and xojo cloud were somewhat cheaper, my decision would be easier.

xojo and a multi-user database like postgresql is way cheaper than filemaker when it comes to deployment !
and you can test it under the IDE completely for free.
