I am going to have a closer look at the IMAP topic, but for testing purposes I do need some sort of local server to start with before knocking on real servers and probably getting banned 
The only IMAP servers that I found were Dovecot and companions, which are full fledged MTA’s and seem to need a lot of configuration work before they can be accessed.
Does anyone know a simple solution for a standalone development IMAP server that does not need hours of configuration work? What’d really be the best is a single app that only needs to be started and runs locally in the background, like the MockSMTP (http://www.mocksmtpapp.com)
Ah, by the way, I develop on OSX
