I don’t get it. Surely IBM with all its resources could have commissioned a large team of engineers to build a robust open source variant of Linux with a store for all the services and a service department for $US100 million at most. Give it away for free and live off the services and hardware revenue.
Microsoft was going to buy Yahoo for $US34b and dodged a bullet, but IBM jumps into the firing line. Well, the lawyers and accountants will be happy.
I did wonder why I’ve been seeing advertising recently (last few days) for IBM Linux One. IBM haven’t just bought the technology, they’ve also bought the business & goodwill.
