This thread is racist and discriminating to the former British colony Botswana which is now 50 years independent of the UK and all the other ex-colonial countries in Africa.

We always give tourists and foreign people a very warm welcome. Even the “Boers” (White Afrikaners) are welcome and are treated with respect, despite the former appartheid regime.

We are Mandela’s people which means that we respect every human unesteemed race, religion, country, culture. That is what Nelson Mandela learned us. And believe me, Botswana has a great heart, because in the 70’s the SA appartheidsregime bombed Gaborone (capital city of Botswana) because they assumed that there where ANC members hiding.

You see Delaney, as the great white man, for people like you, the motswana and other black colonials are just monkeys which you trained in the past to serve your drinks, food and obey every command. Believe me, that time is over.

Forget it Delaney, we are a proud indepenent country and we are better off with people like you. After the indepence at least the motswana people did not cry out that they did not read or knew what was going on. They did not start looking up information after the actual decision to separate like the British did. Today, even Nigel Farage resigned. Small scared people.

I hope you are satisfied witth the result of your “racist” campaign. Because my black wife and myself just agreed that we will no longer renew our pro licence and after this post will never visit this community again.

And to the moderators I advise to ban such subjects on this forum like this one. It brings only sorrow and problems. this is far from respectfull and multicultural.

But here in the United States, today is Independence Day, aka The Fourth of July, where we celebrate our declared independence from the British. Pat’s joke was about that, and I for one appreciated it.

@Chris Verberne - you’ve just misunderstood the English sense of humour - that’s all…

Today is a huge day in American History, this is the day where they threw off their colonial shackles and rejoiced in their independence. Over the years our relationship has healed and now there is a close bond between the English and the Americans - a bond that, I hope, both nations are stronger because of.

That image is no more than a tongue in cheek joke with my American brothers/sisters. Along with such lines as

  • “We have schools older than your country”
  • “You miss us really!”

The colonial world is best consigned to the waste bin of history - and long may it stay there…

Doesn’t Botswana’s Independence Day fall on September 30th?

Indeed the indenpendence is celebrated on 30 september and 1 oktober.

This year it is very special because we are now 50 year independant.

I, too, watched Independence Day yesterday. But today, on July 4th, as on every July 4th for the past 20 years or so, I will be watching the movie 1776. It’s a tradition in this household.
