“Wasting” real estate is entirely irrelevant IMHO. Real estate is NOT a scarce commodity on computers. It may be on a phone, but that is another story.
Make your window beautiful with plenty of space, and stop wasting time on irrelevant considerations. If you need more room, create a new window and be done with it.
