Feedback: Top Cases

Hi!

It’s a simple question…

Does anyone knows when the “Feedback: Top Cases” cases will be done?

For example, Export PDFs… (since 2009)
Show a tooltip while debugging… (since 2000) yes… 2000!!! 17 years!!!

Best regards,

Alex

No. User up-vote is only one of many factors that goes into deciding what is done. It informs Xojo in setting priorities, but it doesn’t drive their decision making.

How long is a piece of string?

I’m hoping that they catch a few of these in the rewrite of the IDE that is currently happening.

Some of them are covered by 3rd party developers so they won’t spend time reinventing the wheel just to include it with the core Xojo release when an option is out there.

The IDE is NOT the same as the frameworks
The frameworks are the basics (controls the language support at runtime etc) and the IDE is literally JUST another Xojo app that uses those

If you need PDF; get our DynaPDF plugin, currently in the OmegaBundle.

@Tim Hare , ok…

(sorry my english)

So what’s expected for new version of xojo and, more important than that…
Which of this “top cases” list (will and when) or will not be developed by xojo at all?

Just because the top cases create a frustrating expectative!
I’m sure i’m not the only one that thinks this way.

So, just an example:
IF the “Show a tooltip while debugging” will be developed someday, WHEN i’ll be done?

Best regards!

Alex

I know you have it Chris.
It’s not personal, but i really want this (and a lot of other things you provide on your plugins) as a built in on XOJO, not an plugin

A better debugger, for example…

Best regards,

Alex

If you need PDF; get our gPDF class currently at www.rdS.com/gpdf

About top cases, don’t be naive. It is just a poll.

Alexandre, better find a solution that fits you and workarounds than to believe it will be fixed in time for your project.

Xojo usually does not discuss/announce their plans. I agree with Michel, look for a workaround or third party solution.

Ok!

I’ll give a look.

Best regards,

Alex

You mean, xojo doe not share a roadmap?

Ok!

Oh yeah!!

I “love” workarounds!!!

Alex

We share what we can and this is usually at events like XDC

You could come to next XDC and learn about the next plans.

please also vote for graphics class extension:

<https://xojo.com/issue/31134> and <https://xojo.com/issue/11391>

I’d love to make a graphics class to output PDF. Instead of our wrapper classes in one of the example projects.

That is EXACTLY what gPDF is.

I vote for export PDF too, the status changed from “Schedule” to “Revised” or other status, meanwhile I wrote my own FREE PDF graphics class here.

Having Xojo provide support for PDF isn’t very feasible I think. PDF itself is even more complicated than Xojo. Either Xojo will do something halfbaked that nobody will be happy with or they will have to double the prices.

I need html to pdf conversion. Printing with the html viewer works but is rather slow. Available open source is even slower. There are a few libraries for the Mac that do what I want. Price range is usually in 5 digits. The “cheapest” solution I found is 2.500 $.

No. It’s also just a compatible class, but not a real subclass.

Well, but Xojo should not waste time on PDF.
They should work on things on Xojo Inc. can do like a better debugger, editor or compiler.
