Documentation Accuracy

The documentation says the following referencing min certs needed

  • You have, at least, the Developer ID Application, Apple Distribution and 3rd Party Mac Developer Installer certificates installed on your Mac Keychain.

However when I go through the steps and look for “3rd Party Mac Developer Installer”, it no longer exists, but I do remember it and a slew of other options were there before now. I’m glad to see Apple is reducing the number of options as it always confused and delayed my next attempt i.e. such as today which is usually about a full year from the previous attempt.

Would it be possible to clarify the 3rd Party Mac Developer Installer and possibly change it to what it actually is? or I could be missing something. If I’m guessing I’m sure others are too.

Also, later in the document it states …

“Once the required certificates are installed on your Mac, and in order to keep your Keychain as clean as possible, I suggest you to open the Keychain app and delete from your computer all the installed certificates that had been revoked, that had expired or have their private key missing, or that are duplicates, for example.”

But - at lease in my case - it should be noted that removing them from the Keychain does not necessarily remove them from the list. One year I tried removing all or most all of my certs to try and start from scratch - only to have them showing still today since 2020 in a greyed out fashion. saying ‘Not in keychain’. Apple blogs seem to indicate that they will eventually drop - but that has not been my experience so far.

You can see at the bottom of the list the actual selections available that (can I safely assume?) would be the correct reference names?

Thanks for reading.

Hi @Benjamin_Brannen

Well the truth is that Apple changes these names from time to time for Xcode… but the name of the certificate under Keychain is always the same: 3rd Party Mac Developer Installer (Mac Installer Distribution).

But - at lease in my case - it should be noted that removing them from the Keychain does not necessarily remove them from the list.

Removing these certificates from the Mac KeyChaing… removes them, in effect, from the Keychain that is what is advisable / expected. Xcode keeps showing those that are still available on the Apple Developer Website for the user… and even those still installed on other Mac computers you may have.
