Clone / Download Zip

Hello,

What does “Clone the repo” mean?

What is the difference between “Cloning a repo” and “downloading the Zip file”?

Thanks.

Lennox

I think “clone the repo” means you owe the bank twice as much money if they take you car back

Cloning a repo (generally from GitHub) refers to using a git client to download the files directly from the remote repository to a local repository on your system (so you now have an exact clone of the repository, but on your local system). The benefit of doing it this way is that you can easily re-upload your modified files to the remote repository if you are contributing to a project.

Download the zip file will take those exact same files from the repository and put them in a zip file for you to download without using a git client. This is an easy way to download the files if you don’t plan on re-uploading them to the repo (though you can associate those files to a repository at a later date, but it is more work).

I hope that helps.

Thanks Jared,

That answers the second part of my question…
