Chrome to flag http sites as not secure, starting January 2017

I just switched my ubuntu linux vps servers to letsencrypt.org. I run HAProxy on them and Apache or Standalone Xojo Webapps behind the loadbalancer.

There are step-by-step howto guides on the web which helped me to put it up, and it works like a charm. I won’t buy any ssl certificates any more!

A question: Chrome will flag http sites, but will it allow access to them anyway?

Yes, you will see the sites. They will simply have a mention in the URL bar as “Not Secure”. Which for a good number of non tech savy people will probably imply “dangerous”.

See https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/08/chrome-is-helping-kill-http/
“dangerous”.
that is I don’t want to be here which can also be interpreted as “Fuck” before switching off the computer at the wall!

You mean, interpreted as “Duck” ?

I have enough teachers wary when their ducken mail server dumped the download instructions in spam an they imply my site is a scam. It is quite apparent computer analphabets buy on the internet with fear in their heart.

Something like that. I do know how to bend this forum to allow expletives using the code tags, but chose not to.

Maybe this helps to implement Let’s Encrypt certs https://certbot.eff.org/
