Chess Mastered in 4 hours

In Just 4 Hours, Google’s AI Mastered All The Chess Knowledge in History

Pretty impressive to think the algorithm were only given the rules of the game, then played against itself, and in 4 hours were able to become the best chess player on the planet. Imagine applying this kind of technology to other problems.

Skynet is on the way …

It’s already here. I’ve had an @skynet e-mail account (the former name of the internet provider proximus in Belgium) since the dial-up times.

“How can I trash out my creator?”
Isn’t that scary? :stuck_out_tongue:

Because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD

Holy sh**t batman

scary part of that little killer drone swarm is that nothing needs to be invented to make it happen

Holy CR*P Batman … I own a drone and it is pretty darn smart now. It could probably do lots of damage if it flew into your head at full speed without any explosive. Coupled with more AI and fed with data from social media this is totally possible now … at least currently on a small scale.

Ahhh … what humans do to other humans … or want to do.

We should just all embrace our new computer overlords

Wow. Kill only the bad half of a city. So they got moral sensors?
That’s what happens when technology advances faster than ethics and morality.

I’d almost contend its an absence of ethics, morality, critical thinking skills, etc.

Wait until they equip them with chainsaw bayonets!

Agreed. They behave as if both were on an inverted proportional scale.
I once had the hope that a black and white thinking – “he’s good; he’s bad” would be overcome once a person grows beyond the fairytale age. Today, that thinking is the foundation of political decisions.

Sadly too darned close to the truth

There will always be someone to use technology to force his rule on people. On the flip side, AI is already showing that it can detect cancers faster and more reliably than highly trained doctors. In a less “bleeding edge” example, an aircraft can be used to carry much needed supplies in natural disaster zones. The same aircraft can drop a bomb on the same zone. It is not the technology, it is power hungry humans that we have to worry about.

If you cant find out WHY an AI made the decision it did then its not confidence inspiring
And for a lot of these AI’s you cant tell how it came to the conclusion it did

I worked on an expert system creation & installation some years ago.
One of the core criteria for it was that it HAD to be able to “explain” how it came to the conclusion it did so our real human experts could check the reasoning - and adjust bad assumptions etc where they were apparent to them.
We spent 2 years training that thing

They could train the AI to explain …

Haha, yeah, exactly, we need a “EXPLAIN ANALYZE” for AI.

I’ve been following the news on those games fairly closely (I used to be an ambitioned chessplayer myself in the 90s before I realized coding is an easier road to a regular income) and I can tell you that looking at those games is absolutely breathtaking. So, if you know a bit about the game, look at the games at http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=160016 and fasten your seat belts…

I have no issue with AI in general - it’s more about who owns the technology.

This sort of technology should be widely available like what was done with human genome sequencing - or so I believe.
