Catalina + Parallels 15

Has anyone been able to successfully set up and use the release version of Catalina on Parallels 15?
Running on 10.14.6 on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

Rendering in most applications is terrible and I’m wondering if it is Parallels or Catalina thats having the problem

Example of Creative Cloud

Example of safari

Example of Visual Studio Code - Apparent replacement for extend script on Catalina.

I feel like it is a Parallels issue as all the apps run ok locally (10.14.6)

I’ve always wondering if it is possible to emulate a macos more recent in parallel than the one you’re running outside of the virtual machine ?

Yes

But you may need to upgrade Parallels for maximum compatibility/performance. Or at least that is what they want you to believe…

Parallels 15 is the latest version I can see of. I’m looking into installing Catalina on an external drive, I just have to find one that will work now.

LOL… just don’t use a “bus-powered USB” drive… .I learned the hard way

Yes, version 15 was recently released and what they recommend for use with Catalina either as the host macOS, or as a guest OS.

I only have usb 3 powered external drives (cannot seem to find support for thunderbolt 2 anymore)
Will that not work?

Safari has the same problems.
My hardware:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
3,1 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB

Parallels Desktop Version 15.0.0 (46967)
My VM settings are:
2 Processors
4096 MB RAM
Graphics: 512 MB, optimal for Retina display, automatically change graphics card

Safari 13 has had some weird issues on my machine as well
Esp when moving a window between displays
I often see what should be “behind” punched through to the foreground and the window title bar disappear
A couple clicks, one off safari then back on it, usually restores things

I’ve reported it to Apple but never heard anything back

Oddly, Parallels and VMWare Fusion have very poor GPU emulation for macOS VMs (the GPU emulation for Windows VMs however is quite good). As a result, lots of features won’t work well or at all on a VM of macOS. I keep hoping they’ll improve this.

I am currently using it on my early MacBook and it works perfectly. Even gaming on it is usable with
the latest version on Catalina.

partition my external drive and installed Catalina on to that.
Everything appears to be running better. So it was Parallels that was the problem
