A proactive project manager is always perceived as on top of it. She has the ability to make things happen. She has the reputation of getting things done. So, why are there project managers who go through the motions, but dont have the same results? Being a proactive project manager makes all the difference.
Here are some of my favorite tips for being proactive, what are your some of your tips for being proactive? https://beyondthechaos.biz/proactive-project-manager/
This only applies to female project managers ?
I like it. I’m moving more from a development position into more of a project management / manager position. I won’t show you our white board with post-its on it! It sure helped us to easily get started in understanding all of the projects we have on the table.
We started by writing the name of a system on a post it note and putting it on the board. Later, we started moving these post its into a quadrant for who is responsible for the project. Soon, we’ll be ready for a project management system. Let me restate that. Soon we will implement a proper project management system. We’ve already been needing a system such as that.
It was eye opening to the team(s) to see how many systems we were supporting. They (and we) had no idea. That’s no way to manage things if we didn’t even understand the scope of what we were trying to “manage”.

Step #1 of any recovery is admitting that we have a problem.
LOL… well, I was writing with my super-awesome team member, Laura Elliott in mind. And I was writing in the third person, so… I’ll let you be the judge!
Let me know if you need any help. I can recommend some solid tools that I am a big fan of. So glad that you are doing this. I think there are a lot of people out there in your same boat!
If you’re at the conference next week I will be speaking very briefly about the advantages that Agile and Kanban have to offer when delivering development projects. These topics really deserve a whole hour each…maybe next conference.
Now being sad that I can’t come and listen to @Robert Litchfield next week! @Kevin J Cully - you should definitely check that out if you will be there!
Thanks Susan.
Unfortunately I didn’t realize this might be a popular subject with this crowd or I would have proposed it as a speaking subject. I’m VERY passionate about combining Agile and Kanban to effectively manage a project, customers and developers.
Unfortunately I won’t be attending XDC this year as well. I’m going to miss all of my Xojo friends. Have a great conference and presentation Robert!
