Apple Magic Keyboard

Hi everyone,

I got a new iMac 5K last November from that sell all sort of apple product near where i live.

When i got the new machine the magic keyboard has 2 partially stuck key which is the Z and Alt…

i have been using it for the last few month until recently when the 2 key decide to just stuck down permanently.

So we send them to the shop ( which is still under warranty) and the people send the keyboard for repair and email us yesterday that is going to cost us £84 to either fix it or replace it. according to them it is water damage and it is not covered. the problem is there is never any water spill on the keyboard. i suspect they give us a dodgy keybaord in the first place. maybe someone returned the keyboard and they decide to pass it to us.

in future when we buy any item from apple, i will ask to check the keyboard or the mouse or anything before we actually pay for it.

did anyone has any problem like me with apple product??

Yup… check and I bet you will find the keyboard is slightly bent up on each end…

Apple replace my keyboard free of charge, but I have been using a logitech “pc” keyboard instead.

I replaced all my fancy bluetooth wireless stuff with wired ones - and for less than Apple wanted

Magic mouse - I loved it but “Connection Lost” made me say to hell with that
Same for the magic keyboard

Now I use a wired mac keyboard (that I’ll need to replce soon with one from macally or something) and a wired mouse

mouse is 100% reliable and the keyboard I can replace with a nice backlit one

good bye “connection lost”

we tell the shop to keep the keyboard and let them incur the cost of sending the keyboard to the workshop whatever.

i have the older apple keyboard that i have been using since 2011 without any problem at all. just clean it up with some alcohol cleaning sheet and it look brand new now. the older keyboard actually feel much better too…

dave, i did not notice tje bend up on each end though

I am using a high end mechanical keyboard by Ducky for my MacPro. it works better (for me) than the Apple brand ones.

Is this shop an actual Apple Store? Was the box actually sealed when you got it? I’d refuse anything from Apple that wasn’t sealed. You have a warranty, unless something has actually been spilt on it, I’d be straight on the phone to them. https://getsupport.apple.com/?caller=cups

is Ducky a brand ??

and is it all its “quacked” up to be? (sorry could not resist)

this shop is a reseller… not actual apple store… and i definitely did not spill anything on it.

Yes Ducky is a brand (Chinese I believe - but dont hold me to it). I bought it from MechanicalKeyboard.com (their US distro) They have distros in most countries. With most high end keyboard brands, you get to pick your switch type ( key switch). I picked “Browns” as it is a middle ground between “soft”/“quiet” and the “loud”/“clacky” ones. Not silent but not overly loud either.

I can go on for a while on this (did a lot of research) and we can chat sometime about it.

If you bought it from a reseller, I’d double-check the warranty at https://checkcoverage.apple.com
Then I’d get on to Apple directly: https://getsupport.apple.com/?caller=cups
Forget the resellers, they’re from a bygone age.
