App is not available in your country/region

I have a customer who reports they are unable to run a free app I ship:

This is basically ’ the app is not available in your country’
Thing is, I have no idea why. After all, they have downloaded the DMG, mounted it, and tried to install.
That message appears to be from App Store, which I don’t use.

Does anyone know why that message might appear?

Are you sure that this is from your app? You got a link to the app?

I am assured that it is by the customer, but I too am sceptical.

Glue this together…

App works fine in the German region of the AppStore.

Let me do some nitpicking:

The transparency of the app icon is not correct:

This is visible even in the app.

The border doesn’t have the same width on all sides in the listbox:

The listbox has an empty entry at the bottom:

Thanks for checking it out, @Beatrix_Willius
Like you, all I have to play with right now is ‘doesnt happen here’
I expect I don’t have the full picture.

You’ll notice that the icon on that window is that of the App Store though. It has to be the App Store that is running when the error was produced.

Does your app open other files which would require another app in the course of its operation? Like opening a PDF or some other file?

Or did someone hijack your app and put it on the app store.

No… this was ‘bought’ for free through normal channels. (and they asked for a refund because of the message!)

It will launch a created PDF file. To get there, they would have had to install it , open it, use it, and save a file.
Other than that, it doesn’t open a browser, and uses MBS plugins.
I wonder if they have some firewall or virus checker app installed.

This message will have appeared at the point where support files were being copied into a folder in ApplicationData.

I would suggest getting a movie

You’re app starts fine here, too. My guess is that your user has confused something.

But maybe you should put some more love to your app, Beatrix already mentioned the icon (@Sam_Rowlands has a nice icon tool - Iconographer mini - in the MAS).
An “About” menu and window are missing, thats something every Mac user expects to find. And your update check shows a “could not connect to server” error before stating that everything is up to date…

Thanks. I didn’t actually want a transparent icon, but if I ever spend any more development time on it, I’ll have a wee tidy up.
The app was an experiment, which I didn’t ultimately proceed with, but decided to allow people to have as a freebie.

“About” …thats something every Mac user expects to find

I’ll be honest, I personally don’t recall ever opening one in any of my Mac apps. But yeah.

I recall something about a string to this effect turning up when people were poking around the Rosetta 2 files. I haven’t heard of Apple region restricting Rosetta 2 intentionally yet. The cases where it did show up were resolved by a reboot.

That sounds like an excellent idea. If the customer engages again, I’ll get them to try it out.

Is the app Intel only?

Is the app Intel only?

Yes. Last time I built it, I didn’t have the option for a Universal Build.
