Allo Houston ? Are you here ?

Talking about Harvey:

how are-you ? I am “watching”News on TV and they are telling Harvey is above Houston…

@Geoff Perlman is a strategist. No central office, minimum distance from one developer to another is more than 100 miles. Xojo is safe.

But spreading them out increases the chance of ONE of them being in Harvey’s way. I don’t want ANY of the Xojo team to be affected the weather — they’re ALL essential!

Ok, you’re right, since risk = chance x impact.
I remember an XDC where the entire Xojo Inc crew was enjoying the same BBQ meat on the same boat. What if one dissatisfied participant should have pulled the plug ?

Emile - My parents live about 5 minutes from the hotel where XDC was held last year. They say bands of rain, nothing too heavy. No flooding yet. They still have power and the wind is not high. They are quite inland and north of the storm’s landing though. Other friends living in Clear Lake (south of Houston on the water) are saying they still have power, wind is higher than a normal storm, but otherwise just stormy. The worst of it is south of that in the coastal areas of Rockport. It’s headed toward the Austin area, but reducing in strength, but not in the amount of rain. The rain and water runoff are the biggest concerns and no one will know what all that affects until early next week.

Stay safe Xojo!

parts of Texas have been hit very hard. I have relatives that have lost their homes to the Tornados (the weather service isnt calling it a tornado but anyone that knows tornados knows that they are) spawned off the the Hurricane.

my office in Houston is affected by the storm. Loss of power. Maybe (partially) under water. I am on standby call in case things get worse in the Houston area. If so, I will be coming there to help out that office.

I hope everyone is safe and evacuated the area. Things can be replaced. Yall cant.

We are near the southwest border of Houston, just outside of Houston city limits and about 200 miles from Rockport Fortunately for us, it hasn’t been too severe here. We’ve had a few bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms and some gusts of winds up to 30MPH. No flooding, though there are some puddles. We haven’t lost electric. So far we have been lucky.

Our thoughts go out to those in the areas being impacted more severely. We hope everyone is safe and dry,

Why is a nature disaster close to our homes, so much more worse than those nature disaster anywhere else in the world?

Lets put our hands together to help people all around the world in times of disaster and get the misery out of this world!

Please, let us make serious steps in changing the climate change so our children gets a clean and beautiful Earth again. Lets end the mistake our and former generations made by burning fossile fuel and go for a cleaner and better future. We own that future generations! STOP using fossile fuel.

Thanks for joining the clean energy club!

Hi Susan, the list,

today early news shows bad images and the comments says the tornado speed slow down (for worse: rain !). So, water flood is awaited…

@Joost Rongen Those of us in Austin are fine. We have just been getting lots of wind and rain, but no flooding in our area. My mother in law is in The Woodlands (Houston) and sent pictures of their lake well over the embankment, but they still have power so they’re lucky.

Doesn’t look too flash over there. Hope you & yours are all ok.

We’ve seen terrible pictures on Dutch television. Really not funny anymore.

Same here (minutes ago). It never was funny (in my mind).

Depending on the new agency that is reporting; either the damage has exceeded or is approaching the damage levels of Katrina. Two sets of my relatives have lost their homes. They got hit by tornados that wrecked the homes and the rain/flooding came in later to finish them off.

All my friends, family & coworkers that live in that areas are safe.

I hope all of our Xojo community is safe.

+1

I moved to AZ 10 years ago but my last home in Houston was just off Buffalo Speedway and a couple of blocks south of Braes Bayou. We used to get street flooding about once a year but this time that house might actually get flooded. Right now I’m glad to be at 5550 ft elevation.

In the end of the 40s (1948 ?), there was a major flood in Cannes (south of France). I had brothers and sisters at school in the flooded area. Rented family house was above the waters. When Parents decided to buy and build a house, Mother said to Father: “everywhere you want excepted in a potential flood area !” Woman desires are God will.

Unfortunately, sometimes (too many times) this is not possible. Look at how many people who lives in the Tornado alley (area).
