Despite the fact I do not bother about the Xojo advertisements I also receive, it can also work against Xojo.
I do not let my buying or choosing behaviour lead to advertisements. Advertisements can cost a lot of money and it is charged to the customer who buys the product.
That is why I always buy white products without any advertisements. They are the same quality, the same amount but there are no fancy costs added.
Don’t use google to search the docs, if you’re doing that.
That makes google think you’re searching an insane amount of Xojo stuff and thus show you an insanely amount of Xojo ads. It’s as simple as that.
You could switch to DuckDuckGo.com for your searches.
Most ads you see are only paid on a click through these days. Facebook can do per view or per click etc. I just let them wash over me, it’s not the end of the world…
Its got nothing to do with Xojo, if you search a few times for a TV, you’ll see TV ads all over the place. It’s just the way certain targeted advertising works online.
Its awesome they are advertising Gotta sell more so they can do more! Shame we cant set a cookie that says were already paid up users so that they dont waste their money advertising to those of us already on the hook
With such a cookie you’d just get some other product advertised instead
Adblockers reduce visual clutter, stop annoying ads (especially annoying ones playing sounds that I hate with a passion), allows websites to load faster, prevents malware infections (there were several infections going round lately where the malware was hidden in ads), reduces the bandwidth used if you are on a limited data plan like me, etc etc
“Let it wash over me”??? Am I insane???
P.S. If you want to support a site and see their ads then just add that site to your whitelist.
For other reasons (including the Xojo use and not wanting to wake my people), it is more than 20 years that my sound system is set to mute (no sound) on my computers.
I read the High Sierra News lately and was happy of what I read for the Safari version that will be shipped with it.
Until then, most of the time (using my MacBook Pro), I have my fingers on cmd-. when I open a web page (animated gif, movies, sounds, etc) to avoid as much as possible bandwidth troubles (as Markus wrote), having heart attack (because of sounds: sometimes I have to set the sounds on), and so on.
Since some times, some resources are loaded at web page move ! And I do not talk about the vertical moves of the window contents while you try to read the text
But here, I am a bit far away from my initial remark. I love Xojo, but four adsin a single page is a bit too much for me. This is like a repulsive (company repeller ?).
Yes, I have to use more Yahoo (or stop targeting Xojo developer documentation web site for information).

FWIW, we actually don’t have any ad campaigns running off of the developer site. You must have done some action on our website to trigger the ad re-targeting. We don’t select the ad inventory ad hoc, it’s based upon what is available, so it’s not common to have all of the ad inventory on a page. The ads are pay per click, so we don’t pay for each impression.
