2024r4.2 Requiring its own license

I just downloaded r4.2 and am being told I need a license to build an app with it. I’m signed in but it’s telling me I have no licenses available.

Why do I need a separate license to run two different copies on the same machine? This doesn’t sound right. Never used to be like this.

I literally had to deauthorize one of my other keys in order to build with 2024r4.2. So I have all 3 of my licenses now used on a single machine! One for the released version of Xojo, one for Xojo 2019 (my web app has not been converted to Web2) and one of the test version of 2024r4.2. For current releases of Xojo, I should not need separate licenses. It’s the MACHINE that should be licensed not the instance of the software…

Are you on Mac?
Something changed on macOS (again) and this can happen. It happened before.

I think you can contact Xojo and they will help you if you need to have a license for another machine as different versions of Xojo on same machine can use more than 1 license.

Thanks.

I tell you what - with all the changes that Apple seems to be doing in the name of who knows what, I am getting sick of them. It’s gradually pushing me towards other OSes. Sequoia is an abomination with the way iCloud works (I literally had iCloud remove things from my desktop wiped them out) and needing to grant permissions to see the local network, etc.

I am always an advocate for giving Linux a try! Linux Mint for Windows like experience or Zorin OS which has simple settings to look like Windows, Mac or others. Both very user friendly and not super technical (unless you want technical, those exist too).
They are free to try/own and you can always buy a new computer like you planned to anyways

I make a good number of Linux software with Xojo and other tools/languages and basic computer tasks work fine. Specialized apps like 3D modeling and Adobe like stuff are hit or miss but they are on Linux too.

You don’t. I always have at least two versions of the IDE available to run, and I can do so. Yes, you should contact Xojo about your issue. I agree Apple is getting annoying, but macOS remains a much better experience than anything else. For testing on Win/Lin I just build a VM.
