The chances are good my family and I have been exposed already. I had a robotics tournament with a thousand people three weeks ago. My son had a robotics tournament two weeks ago with a thousand people at it. My son is at a Chicago university with a large international population and we had to go and pick him up over the weekend to bring him home during which time we ate at several restaurants.

Now at home. Self-isolating to minimize risks to others and see what happens. So far so good. Doesn't help that we are at the very beginnings of allergy season here so watery eyes, scratchy throats, coughs and sneezes are pretty common. :(

@ChristianSchmitz We got notice that it arrived in our village. Now trying to not catch it myself.

Keep in mind, the official numbers doesn't show the current state. They represent a state 10-14 days ago. Sad to say but you may have been already exposed without knowing it. Make yourself comfortable at home. We all, or at least 3/4 of the population will get Corona . The only important question is. when and will there remain a functioning health care system to take care of the ones with severe pneumonia. The current numbers show 15 % need medical treatment. 5% need intensive medical treatment.

Expect the situation getting more worse in the following 10-14 days before any result of the current measures will be represented in the numbers. It's no rocket science but just cold and brutal mathematics and statistics.

For months it was clear that it will spread to the rest of the world. I've prepped myself in Feb already and reduced unneeded social contacts and worked from homeoffice. Both my wife and myself are in a priviledged position to do so. Now the people are razing supermarkets and trying to buy masks where no masks are available anywhere. Owen Jones wrote it a couple of days in theGuardian: "inequality kills"

Taiwan did a good job (Source in german only ) but nobody took care due political implications. They have learned their SARS lesson years ago and did not made deep cuts in their public health system.

I still don't understand why german have 1/10 of the french (or spanish) deads, and still almost the same number of people infected.

This is what I cannot explain either. Some say it has to do something with the intensive medical care. We have one hotspot in Heinsberg in Northrhine-Westphalia where a substantial number is still in uncertain state and in intensive medical care. So I expect a rising death toll in Germany too.

Some are learning exponential growth the brutal way now. The next lesson in math will be the queuing theory . Any given system shouldn't be run beyond a treshold of 60-70% of utilization otherwise it will collpase. it's a rule of thumb (source ). I believe our systems are about to collapse in the next 1-2 months from now. Wanna bet? The economical impact will last for years. 2008/2009 was nothing in comparison to this.

Apparently taking ibuprofen makes things worse if you are infected. France has a long record of too many people taking ibuprofen. Maybe Germany doesn't as much and that would explain the difference in mortality rate.

The US CDC and Canada's PHS have no such advice against taking ibuprofen
Snopes has a decent rating of "unproven" with some nice follow up material

Interesting thread. Not much to add. Is it possible to run Xdev as a virtual conference using videoconferencing for those people who have signed up to attend?

In the meantime, wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20-30 seconds after potential contacts. Don 't shake hands - just say "Hi, Be well" or some other pleasantry. Use tissues and discard them. Sneeze into your elbow or a tissue. Social distancing means one and a half to 2 metres away from the next person. My understanding is that the US health system cannot cope with large numbers of severely ill. 80% of cases will be a mild, flu like illness, so don't panic! - and don't go to hospital unless you have respiratory symptoms that are bad.

May we all "live well and prosper"

Wanna bet? Sounds like the perfect timing. London will be out of the EU then, the Corona and Brexit Issues - Brexit, you remember Brexit, don't you? It ruined at least 3 consecutive Christmases by argueing about it in families - will hit the UK hard while the rest of Europe will have the solidarity and the single market of the EU. In fact before Corona I thought, UK could manage their Brexit and free-trade freefall but now I think they rather will fail or become a colony of the United States.

I expect a low Pound in relation to the Euro and low prices in London and so I wait and bet against the early bird XDC rabate and will subscribe in fall or winter 2020.

@Xojo: Perhaps Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Rome or Berlin would be a better choice ;-) We will see...

    Meanwhile in the real World...

"The EU Is Abandoning Italy in Its Hour of Need

In a shameful abdication of responsibility, fellow countries in the European Union have failed to give medical assistance and supplies to Italy during an outbreak. China is filling the void."

I do not give anything on such blame games. Here's another one from today, calling Corona a "Chinese Virus" (Source )

You should check your sources: Italy asked the EU for help and italy is recieving help e.g. 1 Mio face masks from Germany alone (Source )

The Chinese airplane with scientists and doctors was scheduled long time before and of course they brought medical equipment with them. I won't compare this single, rather symbolic delivery with the constant stream of goods and help circulating inside EU every day. Every help and solidarity counts.
