    I prefer to wire them with small electric charges that I can trigger when I'm on the phone with them and the excuses start :P

    Seriously, though, get it all into the contract.

    Also, you provide some good tips for the sub - but they all really boil down to YOU pay attention to schedules and what YOU committed to provide - milestones, updates, communications, timesheet, etc. I doubt that there is a high-level contractor who will become a bane to your existence if you simply keep ahead of or on shed-yool with YOUR commitments.
