Sightseeing in Berlin

Just six weeks left till our conference.
Same of you stay a whole week in Berlin, so you have a lot of time.
Maybe you want to check with others for doing sight seeing tours?

Walking from Reichstag along the streets to Alexanderplatz is a nice walk and comes along a couple of buildings including the Dom, Brandenburger Tor and the palace construction site.
Visiting inside of Reichstag as part of a guided tour needs registration, so you may join an English tour.

The museum island with the 5 museums may also be worth a day.
A walk through the huge park called Tiergarten is also relaxing. There is a cafe south west and a tee house north west.

With subway you can get to Charlottenburg Palace and see some baroque buildings with nice gardens.

For history, you could go to Brandenburger Tor and than walk along where the wall was to south till you get to Checkpoint Charlie.

If you don’t mind some train or car driving, you can get to Dresden for a day.
That’s the city with famous rebuilt Frauenkirche, but also other history buildings.
When you are there, a trip to the water castle Moritzburg would be a nice highlight for the evening.

Well, Ulrich may have more ideas and you could synchronize with other international visitors to share travel plans.

Berlin has two zoos: the Berlin Zoo in West-Berlin, the largest world-wide in count of animal species (the Aquarium, which is part of it is also fantastic) and the Tierpark in East-Berlin, which is one of the most extensive in the world. Unfortunately due to the bird flu you won’t see any birds until June in both of them (with the exception of the pheasants in the Tierpark, which are on display).
Berghain (if this doesn’t mean anything to you, it’s not worth googling it).
