Text Project Format

Tried to save a project in text format but Xojo does not seem to give me the option. Only option is to save it in the default binary format. Any ideas?

Xojo Preferences:

Save Dialog:

Unless you have a build license you won’t be able to save in anything other than binary. If you do then contact customer service.

Maybe I misunderstand, but I thought saving a project in text format allowed one to use their favourite version control software, e.g. Git.

And being old-school I want to use Git from the command line, not via a GUI interface like SmartGit.

What does a build license give me? I thought Xojo was free to develop with?

A build license gives you the ability to create a stand-alone build (Desktop, Console, Web) that you can easily distribute or deploy.

You can develop for free using Xojo, but without a license you can only save in xojo_binary_project format.

In RS2012r2.1 under trial license, it is possible to build and distribute a trial version of the application that is time limited. It provides first time users of RB the freedom to try and see if the RB suits them before buying a license and in the meantime get feedback from the end user with this time limited version. That capability seems to have been removed from Xojo2013r1. If it has been removed then any good reasons why?

Correct, Xojo cannot do time-limited builds. In order to make Xojo freely usable by anyone, this is one of the license changes we felt was necessary.

Thanks for the answers. OK, I understand but don’t necessarily agree.

If I want to track changes to my application source code as I reach milestones in my development, how do I do that (without a build license)? For example, can I export my classes, saving them as text files with Xojo, and then use them in conjunction with Git?

With the IDE being permitting anyone to save as textual formats would mean that any team of any size could never pay for a license and only buy one build license for the entire team.
That’s not great for our business

You can certainly commit the binary project into Git, although that is less than ideal.

A “contradiction in terms”.

Ok, I can live with that very well. Nevertheless, if I remember right: my “light” Desktop License of 2014 doesn’t supported project export in text format. Correct? Developers, who paid something, should have the unlimited access to the own code, I guess.

If this is possible in the meantime for “light” Desktop License, just report and I will purchase a new “light” license for Windows again.

“LITE” version saves only in BINARY format… VCS and XML are limited to paid licenses

LITE versions are paid as well…

HAVE LICENSE WILL TRAVEL… (export to VCS AND XML)

I recently bought a LITE version without knowing this limitation. Now I’m very dissapointed and I have requested a refund. I can’t afford a $300 licence only for versioning my code. Sorry, but I don’t understand and I don’t support this limitation. I think this limitation should be better noted in the Buy page.

xojo website should have a comparison chart which include info about the various format that u r able to save to

It used to.
