I’m looking for examples of web apps built with Xojo/Real Studio. I can see an example with this link http://demos.xojo.com/cgi-bin/orders/orders.cgi#10046 , but I would like look real finished projects.

I will appreciate if anyone has details about this.

Thank’s

Hi,

Thank you to Greg and Damon for the comments.

Each time you change a parameter, the model number and price is updated.

I’ll be releasing this one soon - I only have screenshots right now to show you though - http://www.armyflightlogbook.com/screenshots/index.php maybe gives you idea on webpage vs mobile.

I am new to Xojo and am interested in web apps regarding an existing website. I want to maintain the look and feel of the rest of the site but add dynamic content to several pages. How hard is it to accomplish this using Xojo? Also how do you handle SEO content to make sure your pages have good search engine visibility? I know I can learn to do this using PHP but am wondering how Xojo stacks up…

Maintaining the look and feel shouldn’t be difficult given the flexibility in using “styles.” In terms of SEO, it sucks. Really. Everything you do is “hidden” in some JavaSript file somewhere. However, a trick I learned a while ago (when the Web Edition was still alpha) is to create hidden divs that don’t appear/render in the web browser. Inside the hidden divs, you can have whatever you want and search engines should be able to still see them and crawl through them.

I’m not sure what you have in mind, but WE is geared toward creating a full blown web application, not just “adding some dynamic content to a page.” It can be done, but depending on what you have in mind, it might be the harder route. Adding dynamic content is just too easy using other tools, such as jquery and php. (Of course, there’s a ton of assumptions in this statement, so ymmv.)

“Product blocks/sections with thumbnails, pictures, descriptions. All generated on the fly from current data in a database.”

Is Xojo’s web apps the right tool for something like this?

I am working on an application where all the menu information, all strings (multi-lingual), all transaction control data, etc. is maintained in a database. Works like a charm. The database is on a server located on the same network subnet as the web application server. Database requests are very quick. What takes a long time, depending on link speed, is the load of the pages on the client when there are many controls. I would also caution that pictures may take quite a bit of time to transfer to the client. Data updates (queried from the database) on a page that is already loaded, in response to user actions, is generally very fast.

Take a look at the example app that Xojo has created. I think that would be similar to what you have in mind. But it can do that a lot more. You will need to consider other issues like servers, load, deployment strategy, browser compatibility – basically, your infrastructure. Tools like WE (all tools like WE) are often very good for the developer but sometimes bad for the user experience or people who have to support it on the backend. Think of it as “with great powers comes great responsibilities.” You just need to dive in, create a simple test app, run it and test on the different browsers to make sure it meets your needs.

If you don’t have a deployment license, I’m sure you can still “run” it and then use your other devices to connect to it using the dev machine’s IP and port number to view.

… I just tried the language selection on your site and set it to German. I’d say : keep it in English. Better no translation than this automatic stuff, it sounds horrible.

I’ve done a small website for my Software named HangarBox, check it out : http://www.hangarbox.de
but it is only in german without any translation… sorry for that.

its a maintenance tracking system for lighting fixtures used by the event industry.

I am currently using it for a proposal system and it works real well. Hosting is key unless you are real good managing CGI servers.
